It was announced in mid December of 2011 that the royal family would be embarking on a worldwide tour in 2012 as part of celebrations for Queen Elizabethís Diamond Jubilee. On his first solo tour, Prince Harry is expected to visit Belize, the Bahamas and Jamaica. But there is another high profile woman who has made some historical comments of her own. In her inaugural speech, the newly sworn-in Prime Minister of Jamaica, Portia Simpson Miller said that Jamaica will be cutting the chord with the United Kingdom. The queen will be removed as head of state, making the island a republic. Jamaica is preparing to celebrate fifty years of independence from Britain. And while she has utmost respect and admiration for the Queen, Miller says that the time has come to complete the circle of independence. The decision is not expected to affect the planned visit of Prince Harry.
