Have you been thinking of taking the bus from Mexico to Belize? Here is some first hand information....
Mexico To Belize
Mexico to Belize, using the Mexico bus system, lots of people choose this route for a variety of reasons air fare for one , flying to Cancun is relatively easier and less expensive. Plus there is lots to see and do along the way.
This little article is the route I took from the Cancun air port into Belize, starting from Cancun, from the airport no need to pay for an expensive taxi, or go thru the hassle of finding the buses, I prefer to just request a shuttle van to a little town called Peurto Morelos, it is only about 20 minute ride and the shuttle is only about 20 dollars, make some time to check out this little fishing village, the locals are very friendly, and they will go out of there way to see that you enjoy your time. There are lots of reasonable places to stay or eat, for instance the Posada Amor
has clean little hostel price rooms with private baths starting at about 14 dollars, and if you are looking for something with a little more, I like to stay at the Inglaterra,
rooms there are about 30 a night but they have air conditioning, TV, small fridge and hot plate, try and get a room on thesecond floor, or higher for better air and nice balcony.and the staff is awesome, not to mention the best shower I ever had in Mexico, and really reliable wifi.
Do not leave town without at least one meal at Chimichurri,
I highly recommend this place for the best steak I have ever eaten, if its seafood then Casa de Pescador,
stands alone for great meals and service, have lunch at Tio's for a real Mexican experience.
Leaving Peurto Morelos heading south to the Belize border is about a 5 or 6 hour bus ride, but there is lots to see and do on the way, do some research before heading out, you may want to make some stops along the way, Leaving this little town either a taxi for 2 dollars or the local bus for about 50 cents gets you back to the main road, there you will find a little bus station to buy your tickets, you do have options for bus class but i prefer not to ride ADO first class non stop, because youmiss a lot of the experience, take the intermediate bus, works out to about 2 dollars an hour, they go thru every little town along the way, you really get to see a lot, plus they will pick upvendors at the beginning of a small town offering snacks and refreshments and then let them offon the other end, Eat something you have never tried before, you just never know.
The city of Chetamul, sits right on the Belize border and you might want to spend a night here
once the bus stops, here you have an option to take another bus over the border to Belize city or do what I did take the water taxi out to San Pedro and avoid the city., you need to take a taxi, but be careful and arrange the rate before getting indon't pay more than 4 dollars for a ride to the Aztec hotel, its just one block from the mainstreet, there you can get a clean room with air, private bath,TV and good wifi for less than 30 a night.take a walk down the main avenue in Chetamul, vendors offer lots of really good eats for very little cost,My bowl of breakfast fruit topped with granola was less than a dollar. The side walks are wide and not crowded, and if by chance you need shoes, there seemed to be a shoe store on everyblock, of course there are many other cool little shops and restaurants of interest
From the hotel you can walk to the Pier or take a taxi for 2 dollars, the water taxi leaves daily for San Pedro at 3 pm, be a little early to clear customsthe boat ride is about 2 and a half hours and the prices very depending on your bargaining skills, from 20 to 50 dollars, if you can get a seat outside on the water taxiI prefer the fresh air and scenery from from where the skipper runs the boat as opposed to down insidewith limited visibility.
Welcome to San Pedro, Belize...
