The Belize Fisheries Department has put on notice all fishermen, including the public, that Valentines' day will be the last day to extract one of the World's most sought after delicacies.
In a press release issued today, the department states that in accordance with the Fisheries Act, Chapter 210 "the closing season for lobster fishery starts from February 15th thru June 14th."
That means, no person shall buy, sell or have in possession any Spiny lobster. Any person who contravenes or commits an offense with any of the provisions of the Fisheries Act, shall be liable on summary conviction as stipulated in the Act. In addition, the Department reminds all those persons who have lobster traps in the waters of Belize, to remove their lobster traps from the seabed.
