Prince Harry at Belmopan Streetfest

Prince Harry's visit to Belize is all set for March second and third.

He will be n Belize for just 23 and a half hours - but according to the Foreign Affairs protocol office - it should be the best stop he makes on his Caribbean Tour of the Bahamas, Jamaica and Belize:..

Diana Locke - Ministry of Foreign Affairs
"We have decided to promote Belize, basically, giving Prince Harry a best of Belizean lifestyle, culture, and what we have to offer from a Tourism perspective. That was of keen interest to the representatives that came here to meet with us. And, from the little that I have seen, I think that our program offers something extremely exciting for him, as opposed to some of his other stops. I'm not say that they are not going to be good, but I think that we're going to be offering the best option. He is coming to Belize to represent Her Majesty, the Queen, in respect to the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. It's not the kind of visit that we've done for Princess Anne and Prince Andrew, who came to Belize. This is different. It's a more relaxed visit. It's not as official as all the others. There is very little official activity in this visit, and I think that' the way the like to keep it. On the Friday of his arrival, we're doing a street party in Belmopan, where they're naming the boulevard after her Majesty, the Queen. And that's where we're going to have all our cultural entertainment, the party, the local food - that sort of stuff. The entire Belizean population, country-wide, is invited to that event. There are no invitations necessary. We will start from 4 o'clock in the evening. The party is expected to begin. People will be screened when they are going in. And it will run until 10 o'clock in the night. There will also be the drive from the airport, going through Ladyville, though the Boom Road into Belmopan. Unfortunately, he is not going to be able to come into Belize due to the time constraints. So, we're using that route. People on the streets can actually be out there. We expect that they will slow down, and he will be looking at the villages, as we generally do. And of course, you won't be able to miss the motorcade."

After the cultural street fest in Belmopan - the Prince will travel to Cayo where eon Saturday he will visit the OAS adjacency Zone office and then Xunantunich...

Prince coming to Belize

Prince Harry

They say if you kiss a frog, it may turn into a prince. Belize has plenty frogs but so far none has elevated to a royal status. But in a few weeks, a bonafide member of the royal family will be in the Jewel. The second child of Prince Charles and Lady Diana is coming to Belmopan. Plans are in full gear for the anticipated visit of Prince Harry, who is scheduled to arrive in Belize on March second and departing on the third. While he is spending a mere twenty-three hours in the jewel, his schedule is jam-packed with a host of cultural events. Prince Harry's visit comes as a part of The Royal Family's celebration of Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee. Chief of Protocol, Diana Locke says that the visit is not at the state level, but is geared towards introducing the Prince to a true Belizean experience.

Diana Locke, Chief of Protocol, Prince Harry's Visit

"The visit for Prince Harry, he is coming to Belize to represent his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth the Second, which is our Head of State. Basically, it's not the typical state visit that we do; this one has much more informality. It's going to generally be a quick more of interaction with the Belizean public instead of interaction with high level government officials. On arrival, he will be given the royal salute and from then there there's a very brief meeting with the Prime Minister and he will be introduced to a few officials at the airport. Then from there, we head straight off to Belmopan where he makes his official call on the Governor General. Once that is complete, we then move into the very big public event, which is what we want to highlight, which is the street fest, where the street is going to be named after Her Majesty, The Queen. That event is going to begins on Friday the second of March from four p.m., so people are encouraged to come out and enjoy all the cultural entertainment and there will be food for sale from some of the Belizean cultures, and that continues until ten o'clock the night."

Andrea Polanco

Diana Locke

"So, I know also in Belmopan on that day, that is where he will be making his only speech, his statement to the public?"

Diana Locke

"That is correct; he will be saying a few words. I understand he will be delivering a message from The Queen and he will be saying a few words of his own, which will actually be a very short speech."

Andrea Polanco

"Awrite, and on Saturday, of course he will be in the Western part of Belize?"

Diana Locke

"Yes, he will be travelling to the OAS Adjacency Zone in the morning dealing with the children both from Belize and Guatemala, who participated in the OAS cultural program; he then leaves and goes to Xunantunich, which is going to be the bigger portion of the day where he will be interacting with children and doing some of our tourism experiences; that I think should be the most captivating part of the trip for him."

Andrea Polanco

"And of course, this visit is expected to be different from the other two tours that he is taking, which includes the Bahamas and Jamaica; we are hoping to immerse him in the whole Belizean culture and to experience Belize differently?"

Diana Locke

"From what I have seen so far, yes, Belize is going to be the most exciting part of the trip, the other parts are going to be more official things, but I think this offers more of an interactive approach to the whole visit; like I said in the beginning, it's a different kind of visit."

While local media will cover the Prince's visit, it is expected that a number of foreign media will also converge in Belize, and so far thirteen have confirmed to be in Belize for the royal visit. From Belize, the Prince will fly to Bahamas on March third, to Jamaica on the fifth and to Brazil on the ninth.

Preparing for the arrival of Prince Harry to Belize

The Government of Belize, through various departments, is making final preparation for The Royal Visit of Prince Harry. The visit is scheduled to take place on the 2nd and 3rd of March and the 'Happy Prince' is expected to be on Belizean soil for about a total of 23 hours as a part of the celebration to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee.

Queen Elizabeth chose the countries each member of The Royal Family would visit during her Diamond Jubilee Celebration. Prince Harry is known for his humanitarian heart and adventurous spirit, and Belize is perhaps the best destination. During his visit Prince Harry will be actively engaged with the Belizean populace, and focusing less on ceremonial activities.

As part of his itinerary, Prince Harry will visit one of Belize's most frequented Maya Temples - Xunantunich, enjoy cultural activities, host a luncheon with children, attend a street party open to the Belizean public, visit the OAS Adjacency Zone in Western Belize and visit with both BATSUB and Belize Defense Force Soldiers before leaving.

Prince Harry is expected to arrive in Belize at 4:25PM on Friday March 2nd onboard a private jet at the Phillip Goldson International Airport. There, he will receive a salute from the Belize Defense Force and later pay courtesy calls at the VIP Lounge of the Airport to the Prime Minister of Belize, Hon. Dean Barrow, Leader of the Opposition Hon. Francis Fonseca and British High Commissioner to Belize, Patrick Ashworth.

He then departs to Belmopan where he will have a private meeting with the Governor General of Belize His Excellency Sir Colville Young where the commemorative postal stamps will be unveiled to the Prince.

Following his brief stop at the GG's office, Prince Harry leaves to attend a Street Fest. Cohune Walk will be re-named in honor of Queen Elizabeth II and will include a lively public Belizean street fest with live music. The only official speech will be delivered there by Prince Harry, a message from Queen Elizabeth II to the people and country of Belize.

Prince Harry will get to enjoy traditional foods and presentations from the Mestizo, Creole and Garifuna cultures. Prince Harry is expected to leave the Street Fest shortly after 8PM which ends his activities for the first day.

On his second day, March 3rd, Prince Harry starts his activities with a visit to the OAS adjacency Zone on the Belize side of the boarder where he will meet with OAS officials. The visit to the OAS adjacency Zone is to highlight the cultural exchange between the two countries. There he will interact with the children involved in the OAS cultural program and will tour the immigration facility for an art exposition.

He leaves to Xunantunich at midmorning. Once there, Prince Harry will get to enjoy the Maya culture at its best, especially given the fact that 2012 is an important Ending Period for the Maya civilization. He will first meet with children from the Belize Special Olympics Program and get to see traditional products made from recyclable materials by women of the area. He will then make his way via the jungle of Belize to the Ruin and will climb El Castillo (the main temple at Xunantunich - Maiden of the Rock).

He also gets to enjoy live musical and dance performances from Deer Dancers as well as the Succotz Marching Band. He will also enjoy lunch with the some children ages five to ten. After lunch, the Prince will leave to the ferry where he will make a Jubilee Canoe Presentation to the Ruta Maya Organization and will toast with a Belikin.

Prince Harry departs to Price Barracks at the BDF Headquarters shortly before 1PM. Once there the Prince, who has served in the Afghanistan War, will meet with elements of the Belize National Coast Guard, BDF and later with the remaining members of BATSUB. His final activity will be to lay a wreath at a monument erected for British Soldiers that have passed away while on service in Belize. Prince Harry is expected to leave at 4PM, making his visit just short of 24 hours, to Nassau, Bahamas.

According to the GOB, final preparations are still ongoing and they are encouraging Belizeans to join the celebration at the street fest being organized for the occasion of Prince Harry's visit. The visit is being coordinated by the GOB through the Government Press Office, The Belize Tourism Board, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Belize Defense Force in close collaboration with the office of the British High Commissioner in Belize. According to BTB, the visit is not only significant to Belize, given the history of the country, but because Prince Harry will be engaged in activities that he enjoys and ties in with the marketing brand of the country - Be One with Belize.

Prince Harry's Belize Schedule Released

Prince Harry will set foot in Belize on March 2, 2012 and will be in the country just short of a full day - 23 hours to be precise. But according to a press release from the Belize Foreign Affairs protocol office today, it should be the best stop he makes on his Caribbean Tour of the Bahamas, Jamaica and Belize in celebration of Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee.

He is the second child of Prince Charles and Lady Diana and he is visiting Belmopan and San Ignacio during his whirlwind visit to Belize which his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II has set up for him; she picked Belize for Harry because of his free and adventurous spirit and humanitarian heart. So the government of Belize, along with the Belize Tourism Board, is organizing a packed schedule for the Prince to maximize his visit to the country. The good part is that the visit will be a less formal one which will engage him much more with the people of Belize and focusing less on a state level visit with more official ceremonial activities.

Prince Harry is scheduled to arrive in Belize on Friday, March 2, 2012, at 4:25p.m. on board a private jet at the Phillip Goldson International Airport where he will be received with a salute from the Belize Defense Force and meet officials at the VIP Lounge, including the Prime Minister of Belize, Hon. Dean Barrow, Leader of the Opposition Hon. Francis Fonseca and British High Commissioner to Belize, Patrick Ashworth.

From there he departs to Belize's capital, the City Of Belmopan where he will meet with the Governor General of Belize, Sir Colville Young, where commemorative stamps will be unveiled to the Prince. The major event where residents of Belize will be able to get a glimpse of the Prince will be at the City Of Belmopan's Street Festival that will be open to the public. Prince Harry will deliver a speech on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II and the Cohune Walk street in northwest area of the City of Belmopan will be re-named in honor of the Queen.

At the festival Prince Harry will be treated with traditional foods and presentations from the Mestizo, Creole and Garifuna cultures. The Street Festival will continue after the Prince's expected departure at 8p.m.

The following day, Saturday, March 3, 2012, Prince Harry will be travelling to the OAS Adjacency Zone in the morning and interacting with from Belize and Guatemala, who participate in the OAS cultural program. He will also tour the Belize immigration facility at the western border for an art exhibition.

The highlight of this day will be a visit to the Maya ruins of Xunantunich where he will be interacting with children from the Belize Special Olympics Program, immerse in the great Maya culture, enjoy musical and dance performances from Deer Dancers. After lunch the Prince will leave to the ferry crossing where he will present a Jubilee Canoe to the Ruta Maya Organization.

For the rest of the afternoon, Prince Harry departs to the Price Barracks, meet with the Belize National Coast Guard, BDF and BATSUB members. He will lay a wreath at a monument erected for British Soldiers who have passed away while on service in Belize, after which he is expected to leave Belize at 4p.m.

Diane Locke, Chief of Protocol Prince Harry's Visit, stated that Belize is going to be the most exciting part of Prince Harry's tour of the region as other countries have more official itineraries. She stated that Prince Harry is really excited to visit Belize. From Belize, the Prince will fly to Bahamas on March third, to Jamaica on the fifth and to Brazil on the ninth.

Local media is expected to cover the Prince's visit with over 40 international media expressing interest in following him, with the possibility of providing live international coverage. Final preparations are still taking place and the Government of Belize is encouraging all Belizeans to join the celebration at the Street Festival. Surely Prince Harry's visit to our beautiful country will be a significant and historical one for all of us to share with the world.

Prince Harry's Caribbean getaway

Globe-trotting Prince Harry was the ace of nightclubs in Vegas, and what happened there didn't stay there. The party-loving prince hit hotspots at Encore and Wynn Las Vegas and flirted with local lovelies.

This week, he's headed for another party destination: the Caribbean and Bahamas. He is due in Belize Friday, where stops include the Mayan pyramid of Xunatunic, and then he'll visit Nassau.

He's due for a longer stay (March 5-8) in Jamaica, but not for reggae or romance. Harry is on official business commemorating the 6oth anniversary of grandmother Queen Elizabeth's coronation.

Harry, a captain in the British army, is scheduled to participate in military exercises and co-pilot a helicopter. He will visit one of Jamaica's historic "Great Houses" and the new Falmouth Pier, where cruise ships dock, ride a tourist train and attend a reception at the Sandals Royal Caribbean Hotel in Montego Bay.

He also will visit the Olympic 100-meter winner Usain Bolt trains, and a place spokesman said Harry hopes to run against the record holder.

He will visit the running track where Olympic 100m champion Usain Bolt trains, and hopes to take part in a "race" against the world record holder.

Other highlights will include a visit to the 3,000-year-old Mayan pyramid of Xunatunich in Belize and a two-day stay in Nassau in the Bahamas.

Briefing papers say he'll get some time off on the north coast March 8. Jamaica lovers, what should he do that day? I would vote for a trip to Dunn's River Falls.
