There’s a new Belize ambassador to Mexico. With the departure from Mexico of Rosendo Urbina Senior who is now running for office, Oliver del Cid today presented credentials to President Felipe Calderon at the National Palace in the Mexican capital. Del Cid was born in Belize City, but grew up in Orange Walk Town. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Southwest Texas State University and a Masters in International Policy and Diplomacy from Staffordshire University. The new ambassador also attended Oxford University’s Foreign Service Programme on a Chevening Scholarship. His experience includes a stint as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Belize in Guatemala and more recently was Deputy Coordinator in the National Security Council Secretariat. It is interesting to note that it is most unusual for new ambassadors to take up post within days of an election.
