from a friend...

It would be interesting to see if the new GOB takes advantage of the fact that mangroves are among the most carbon rich forests in the tropics and given national mangrove coverage of over 70,000 hectares in our Belize it would be nice to create a "Belize Blue Carbon Exchange" and sell "carbon stocks" to comply with Reddi+ etc . The estimated market value would be over USD $200,000,000.

comment from a friend.......

A similar type of agreement was signed around 2000 between the USA & Belize. It was titled, if memory serves, "a debt-for-nature swap" agreement. Someone posted a scanned copy quite recently. Do a search I am sure you will find it... if you dont have a copy of it already. And I believe it was signed in DC.

Reddi and Reddi+ is relatively new .
But i did read "AGREEMENT BETWEEN
THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND
THE GOVERNMENT OF BELIZE REGARDING A DEBT-FOR-NATURE SWAP
TO PREPAY AND CANCEL CERTAIN DEBT OWED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF
BELIZE TO THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND ITS
AGENCIES"
