We love them and have only found them on one trip. Does any one know when apple banana's are available? We'll be down the middle of May, AGAIN! Just can't stop! smile

They are the Banana that most people grow on the Caye rather than being commercially available. Find a local that has them and hope their ripening coincides with your visit. I have a half dozen in my Yard that all tend to ripen at once and as nice as they are 50 bananas that last three days is a bit much to eat!

Phil, you can freeze them and use them for banana bread or other recipes. Apple bananas make great banana bread. If you have a surplus next time, let me know and I'll make you some!

I ask an older local woman how I could tell when the apple bananas in my back yard where ripe and ready to pick and she said ..."When they are gone!"

I recently learned to cut a small bunch at a time from the top of the whole bunch, working from the top down, over several weeks. They ripen quicker off the tree giving you more time rather than having the whole lot ripen at once. Freezer is full of good stuff - not stuff that's good for you - so no space there for a mere Banana.
