Lent is the Christian season of preparation before Easter. Ash Wednesday marks the first day, or the start of the season of Lent which begins 40 days prior to Easter. It is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. The purpose is to set aside time for reflection on Jesus Christ, his suffering and resurrection so as to  prepare ourselves to die spiritually with Christ on Good Friday, the day of his Crucifixion, so that we can rise again with him in new life on Easter Sunday.

Janine Ayuso-Reporting

Palm Sunday is a Christian moveable feast that falls on the Sunday before Easter. The feast commemorates Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem the week before his death and resurrection.

The Last supper was held on the evening of preparation for the Jewish Passover. Jesus shared his final meal with his disciples and gave them final instructions and predictions of his betrayal.

As his disciples laid to rest that night, Jesus prayed at Gethsemane. His arrest came next as Judas lead a detachment of Jewish soldiers to his place of prayer.

After his arrest Jesus was taken to be beaten by Jewish guards in Sanhedrin where he was set to be trialed and found guilty. He was then taken to the Roman governor for additional trial who left Jesus' faith to the Jews. After he was found guilty Jesus was taken to Golgotha where he was crucified.

After Christ was crucified his body was placed in a tomb from which he rose on the third day of his death.

"We can say that Easter begins with the passion of our Lord, for example in the holy leave we give in Palm Sunday his triumphant entry that culminates with his execution and crucifixion of the cross then three days after on the first of the week he then rises from the dead, symbol of new life as when they begin to celebrate Easter Sunday and for us it usually lasts for fifty days until the Easter Pentecost it is a triumph over sin, a triumph over evil, it is a new beginning for a new life that is what Easter is about."

"What is your message to the public for the Easter weekend?"

Father Amelio Chi, La Inmaculada Church

"Is for them to open their hearts to the love of God who died for us that he blesses us in so many ways and the greatest gift is for every person to embraces love by just turning away from sin and to grow in his holiness, to grow in his life and ultimately enter into heaven and be with him."

Tonight everyone is invited to attend the Mass of the Lord's Supper at the La Inmaculada Church which began at 7:00 pm.

Keeping the true meaning of Easter alive

And while most of the country will be celebrating and travelling for the Easter, we remind viewers that the significance of EASTER is synonymous to the foundation of the Christian faith. It is a time when Christians worldwide remember the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion. The resurrection of Jesus established him as the powerful Son of God. His presence on earth has forever changed the world influencing the course of nations and even clocking the passage of time. For Christians, Jesus's death and resurrection is proof that God will judge the world in righteousness and has given Christians "a new birth into a living hope." Easter is linked to the Jewish Passover and Exodus from Egypt recorded in the Old Testament. According to the New Testament, Jesus gave the Passover meal a new meaning, as he prepared himself and his disciples for his death during the Last Supper. He identified the loaf of bread and cup of wine as symbolizing his body soon to be sacrificed and his blood soon to be shed; one sacrifice, the ultimate sacrifice. So as you go on your trips and outings over the next four days, don't forget why the country stops to observe these holy days and know that you too can have new life because of what Jesus Christ did for us over 2 thousand years ago.
