I am not yet an expatriate, but I am looking for information about life abroad.
I am South African, and I would like to live in Belize. I currently live in Pretoria, South Africa.

This year my wife and I are going to explore Belize. We like to find out as much as we can about the country we visit before we get there. What is it like to live in Belize? How easy is it to own property there? What is the downside of living there? How realistic is it to buy and successfully run a business? We are looking for business opportunities so we can make a living there. How much money does it take to live comfortable? Desperately need to find out which is the best place to settle/buy a business in a safe & happy area. Anybody living there or been there recently. Any traps to avoid? Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated!

About me
Currently a business broker, website www.petrolstationsforsale.co.za I can speak English and Afrikaans. My birthday is on 21 April, I was born in 1958

The best thing is to search the historical information on this message board because there is loads of information about living in Belize, running businesses, red tape etc etc.

Belize is a wonderful country and you are right to come here first to check it out. Having said that my advice to you is be very careful in what you choose to do because, from what we have seen over the last 10 years or so, making a living in Belize is not easy! Good Luck!
