Apparently they are a path of mystery that needs to be avoided at all costs.

Well, believe it or not, they did need instructions. None of the locals understood that they should be used instead of the middle of the road.

Well, geez, Harriette, after generations of walking down the middle of the road, why would they suddenly start using a sidewalk that some gringo wanted? I'm going to miss walking down the middle of the road.
