Security Message for U.S Citizens – Extreme Caution Urged Regarding Recent Gang Violence U.S. Embassy Belmopan, Belize April 27, 2012
This message is to inform U.S. citizens in Belize that the U.S. Embassy urges the exercise of extreme caution when attending any public events or gatherings with large crowds as a result of the recent high-profile gang-related murders in Belize. Security information also indicates that there could be gang violence at the National Agriculture and Trade Show (NATS) which takes place in Belmopan from April 27-29, 2012. U.S.
citizens could expect to see enhanced security measures implemented at the NATS and along the highways leading into Belmopan.
Caution should also be exercised in Belize City, especially the south and southwest due to areas of known gang activity.
U.S. citizens should continue to remain vigilant at all times. Always remain aware of your surroundings, and be prepared to exit any establishment that you are visiting if the security situation deteriorates.
For the latest security information, U.S. citizens living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet web site at
