I got hooked on this message board about six months ago while planning my honeymoon. And it really paid off. My husband was very proud of my efforts in discovering this wonderful island! We stayed at Captain Morgans in a Cabana. Excellent for honeymooners! It is secluded but there are still people around and the staff really makes you feel like family! Our room was decorated with flowers and champagne. We snorkeled, visited Altun Ha, Maruba Spa with massages, sailing trip, several trips to town. When ever the CM boat was heading to town we just jumped on it free of charge. We experienced the chicken drop, ate at Jerk Pit, Rendevous, Mata Chica and street vendors. Locals are soooo friendly. Not a bad meal the entire trip. Best lobster was eaten at CM restaurant (Buena Vista). We ran into some trouble the last day and I'm curious if any one else experienced this and if you are receiving any type of refund from your hotel. The day before we were to leave, the island was evacuated and we were brought to San Ignacio area and put up there for a night however the accommdations were not even close to comparable. I expect a refund for the night a Captain Morgan's and breakfast which was to be included. But otherwise - what a great relaxing, beautiful island Belize has!!!! Thanks for all the recommendations!!!

Hello.....? Do you work for Captain Morgans? We were there last week and did not experience the same resort you did. Quite the opposite in fact. Don't want to go into too much detail to protect the innocent, however, we will not be staying there during our next trip. Not at all what we expected.
Thanks for the trip report though! [Linked Image]

Don't get frustrated, we ( family ) had a not great experience at Mata Chica and read numerous stunning reviews. Different strokes for different folks. I honestly thing it has alot to do with expectations of a $300.+ US cost and the reality when you get there. We visited ( every day ) town and really loved the town and wished we stayed ther for less than 1/2. The water taxi was $80. US round trip and when added to the cost of even a cheap dinner we ate at Mata Chica and it was a wash. Great people make this place as well as the natural beauty of the country.

I completely agree.... The people (tourists and some of the staff) we met at Morgans and our experiences in town, etc. overshadowed the rest of the experience.

No, I don't work for CM. It was just what we wanted out of a honeymoon. We would
definitely stay at CM again. Visually, it was exactly want we wanted. Too crowded in town and many other resorts were not as tropical looking.

Yes... the view is outstanding and it is tropical looking. No doubt about it.

Glad that you had a good time!

bbnx - please...please.. elaborate on why cm wasn't what you had expected. My husband and I have a reservation there for early Oct. in a cabana and I am a bit nervous after reading your review as it seems that you enjoyed every other aspect of Belize. I did notice that their website didn't show pictures of the interior of the cabanas. Did the rooms not measure up? the grounds? the staff? We still have time to change our minds so any info you could give me would help. Thanks!

Atlanta...

Email me at [email protected] and I will give you the general idea. Nothing earth shattering.... just a matter of expectations vs reality.

I also just returned from my honeymoon in mid August (left 2 days before the storm hit)
and also wanted a 'tropical looking' type of resort (actually, my wife was more set on it.) We looked all over the websites, and asked a lot of questions here, and decided on Ramon's...very similar atmosphere to Captain Morgan's (visually), but right in town...actually, about 25 yds. south of town. We walked everywhere, were never at the mercy of the water taxi, and loved it. Ramon's was quiet, and the staff were excellent in getting whatever we needed. I don't know if I would stay there again due to the prices, but they are pretty similar to Captain Morgan's from what I've heard...maybe cheaper. If you are looking for scenery in a resort, it's beautiful...if you want seclusion and to be away from everyone else...north of the cut is a good bet.
Good Luck!
