Is there a species of Hummingbirds that stays here all year round? We've been here 3 weeks and have yet to see one around our place. Set out a feeder yesterday and so far have seen only one approach the feeder.
I'm happier than a pig in s__t...a foot on the sand...and a Belikin in my hand!
Lots of varieties here on the island year round. Interestingly, we also get the midwestern (US) ruby throated hummingbirds for about a week twice a year when they are migrating. First time I saw one of them I was shocked!
The birds are smarter than people - they won't feed on sugar water made from refined sugar and right now I can't seem to find and raw sugar. They also love hibiscus and Ixchanan (Polly Redhead). This year I have a couple of birds that look almost like the Green-breasted Mango Hummingbird except instead of one black stripe down the middle it has two black (or very dark) stripes with a lighter stripe between. I have so much construction noise going on that all the birds are pretty much sticking to the bush on each side of me.
