Is there a species of Hummingbirds that stays here all year round? We've been here 3 weeks and have yet to see one around our place. Set out a feeder yesterday and so far have seen only one approach the feeder.

I'm happier than a pig in s__t...a foot on the sand...and a Belikin in my hand!

On the island it might be different but there are several species of hummingbirds in Belize year round. Fresh flowers are preferred over feeders...

I get batches of them here in South San Pedro Town. They come and go...right now they're gone.

Lots of varieties here on the island year round. Interestingly, we also get the midwestern (US) ruby throated hummingbirds for about a week twice a year when they are migrating. First time I saw one of them I was shocked!

Early morning and late afternoons you will see them usually around red or orange flowers.

The birds are smarter than people - they won't feed on sugar water made from refined sugar and right now I can't seem to find and raw sugar.
They also love hibiscus and Ixchanan (Polly Redhead).
This year I have a couple of birds that look almost like the Green-breasted Mango Hummingbird except instead of one black stripe down the middle it has two black (or very dark) stripes with a lighter stripe between.
I have so much construction noise going on that all the birds are pretty much sticking to the bush on each side of me.
