Women of Caye Caulker Documentary To Begin Filming Today!
If you happen to pass by a camera-laden group of people looking quite professional today, it's probably the production crew of the Women of Caye Caulker documentary. The interviews begin today. Here is the line up of people who are making this Oral History project a reality: Cameraman, Mike Desabrais, is a professional videographer and editor from the United States. He is a frequent visitor to Caye Caulker and is volunteering his time to the project. Mike, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Carmen Myrtis-Garcia is an award-winning women's studies professor (U.S.) who years ago created a course and published a textbook on the subject matter of women and goddess-based religions/spirituality of ancient history. She will help with formulating the interview questions, among other things. Brieanne Peixoto is a recent graduate with a degree in cultural anthropology. She is a visitor to our shores. Brie has brought a scanner for family historical photos, and Caye Caulker "old" photos, that the interviewees might be willing to share. Brie's boyfriend will be diving with Frenchie's and she has volunteered to help with this project during her stay in July. Tina Auxillou of Chan n Chill Bar and Grill is setting up the interviews for the project. She will the be the interviewer.

New Police Truck Donated During Police Week
Two of San Pedro's officers were honored on Friday, June 29, 2012, at the Medal Ceremony in Belmopan City. Assistant Superintendent of Police and Officer in Charge of the San Pedro Police Department Vienie Robinson and Sergeant Ludgwig Castillo were awarded with the 1st Class Medal Award for serving as Police Officers for over 25 years. Highlighting the ceremony was the handing over of the new police truck which was promised to the San Pedro Police Department in a previous meeting with the mayor and councilors earlier in the year. Mayor Daniel Guerrero officially handed over the pickup truck to ASP Vienie Robinson. Police officers then enjoyed a delicious BBQ in the good company of friends.

Inspiration Telethon Surpasses $1 Million Target
The one million dollar goal set by Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow for the Inspiration Telethon was surpassed as some $1,093,368.66 in pledges and donations was reported at the end of the event on Saturday. Throughout the 10-hour long telethon, persons were able to donate by credit card, text, checks, wire transfers, cash at various booths, buying promo items and by billing to their BTL and BWS post-paid accounts. The donations poured in from all across the country, keeping hotline operators and booth volunteers very busy!

San Pedro High Baseball Team Prepares for Games in Panama
The San Pedro High School baseball team is preparing arduously for a sports challenge which will be a first for the school and for Belize. The team will be representing the country at the Student Athlete Games in Panama City, Panama taking place in September. The high school team is actually a male softball team that has switched gears to baseball in order to be able to compete in the games where they will be playing against the national champions of other Central American countries. "The San Pedro High Softball team won national earlier this year; that was a great achievement for the school," commented team trainer Marion Mejia. "It is a challenge to switch to baseball as the boys are used to a smaller field and bigger balls; but they are training very hard and working on making the switch."
