Rebecca,

Aside from having the carbon contact pad underneath the spacebar checked and cleaned to possibly fix the problem (you can also pick up a used USB or Serial keyboard to extend the life unitl it becomes absloutely necvessary.

EDIT: By popping off the SP key from its pressure fit clips you can access and clean the littel carbon contact pad(s) under that key yourself.Believe me as a former bartender/manager used to popping caps off Belikens you are prefectly capable of doing this! Once off do NOT use a hard metal object on the contact pad, you'll damage the thin layer of contact material and shortly be back in a worse position than beofre. Instead use a Qtip soaked with either alcohol or pure acetone. Pure acetone can often be found as unscented fingernail polish remover. The scented varieties have an oil which can casue contact problems shortly after the cleaning. I'd do this before I bought a new laptop. Google Cleaning my laptop keyboard on YouTube or search my space bar needs cleaning on YouTube. Sorry I gotta run or I'd pop a link up for you.

Hmmm..all these typos, can I blame them on my kybd? no...its defintley operator error.

You really just need to have it cleaned. It's happened to me. The inside of your computer is full of sand and salt. Call Extreme Geeks and see about having it cleaned.

My high-end Dell was full of rust and could not be saved,
I do not use my new laptop outside.

Are there laptops made that are more weather-proof?

Yes, there are several "Marine Grade" laptops available.....completely waterproof, alligator proof, etc, etc. However, be prepared to shell out around $4,000 US!
