Stimulated by Lan's Hotel SSurvey: Is Belize airport increasing it's security?
To me the highest risk for a US traveler is not getting back into the country on time becasue the airline will not accept passengers from airports that do not meet certain security levels. Such minimum security levels can change at any time (e.g. flight attendents and pilots file a complaint).
I don't know much about airport security, but the security systems at Belize International have always seemed to me to be as good as, or better than, that at the average U.S. airport. I don't think there's ever been a hijacking or anything similar originating there.
I agree, but... They didn't take my lighter in Houston or Lafayette. But they did in Belize. Good thing they didn't find my favorite Zippo. They'll take your nail clippers in Belize too!
I got a bunch of grief at International acouple of years ago for carrying a Golf Club with me. The little fellow with the badge and a girl friend to impress made a really big deal of carrying a weapon into Belize. He further implied that they were just enforcing the US rules. I personally don't think a golf club is much of a weapon, when half the country carries around Machete's. I'll leave my golf club at home this time.
I'm traveling to AC in 2 weeks and am curious about whether they'll grab my dive knife from my checked(non-carry-on) baggage? I don't want to attract any kind of negative attention from the authorities there. . .what do you guys and gals think?
