PG government offices rehabilitated
Government offices in Punta Gorda get a facelift. The rehabilitated Administration building and adjacent Town Hall in Punta Gorda was officially inaugurated yesterday afternoon as part of Government Belize Municipal Development Project (BMDP). The rehabilitation of the Administration Offices and adjacent Town Hall was the first infrastructure component of the BMDP countrywide, and was it completed in record time at a total cost of $425,150.00. Counterpart funding was met by the Punta Gorda Town Council. Contract for the rehabilitation of Pampana and Robert Pennil Streets has also been signed and works will commence shortly on these streets. This will generate over half a million dollars more ($531,058.00) in street works for Punta Gorda. The BMDP is a project financed by the Government of Belize through a loan from the World Bank with objective of improving access to basic municipal infrastructure and to enhance municipal management in selected Town and City Councils: these include Belmopan, Benque Viejo Del Carmen, San Ignacio and Santa Elena, Dangriga, Punta Gorda, Corozal and Orange Walk. Speakers at the inauguration ceremony were Mr Anthony Fuentes and Mr Simon Paulino, Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Punta Gorda Town, Hon. Santiago Castillo, Minister of State for Economic Development gave the key note address.
