A security guard at the Caye Caulker Water Taxi Terminal is tonight in custody following the robbery of over fifteen thousand dollars worth of items from various stores inside the terminal. According to owner, Jose Marin, sometime between six p.m. on Sunday and five-thirty Monday morning, the terminal on North Front Street in Belize City, was burglarized and several items were stolen, including an HP laptop valued at fifteen hundred dollars, four cell phones and an assortment of cash in various currencies: one thousand five hundred pesos, eight hundred and fifty U.S. dollars, three hundred Guatemalan Quetzals, and eight thousand eight hundred and twenty-seven Belize dollars. Due to no signs of forcible entry into the terminal, Belize City Security was detained.

Security Guard detained following water taxi terminal burglary

Mr. Jose Marin, Belizean Businessman of Belize City and owner of Caye Caulker Water Taxi Association terminal located at #10 North Front Street, Belize City, reported that sometime between hours of 6:00pm on Sunday the 14th day of October, 2012 and 5:30am on Monday the 15th day of October, 2012, the Water Taxi Terminal was burglarized and stolen there from are the following "Nobos Store" owned by Sabiha Islam Nouren, Belizean Business woman of Belize City were (1) grey in color, HP in brand laptop valued at $1,500.00bcy, (2) blue in color, BLU brand cell phones valued at $59.00 each, (2) boxes of Cuban Cohiba cigar valued at $50.00 bcy each, (1) box of lighters valued $24.00bcy, $1,500.00 Mexican pesos, $850.00US, $300.00 Guatemalan Quetzals, and $4,300.00Bcy in different denominations, from Bondu International Store, owned by Adullah Khalique, Bangladeshi Business Man of Belize City was $1527.00Bcy, from Shah Paran Store owned by Fokrul Amin, 31 yrs, D.O.B 20/3/81, Bangladeshi Business Man of #17 Orange Street, Belize City, were (1) black in color Samsung cell phone, with calling number 678-1342, with $250.00Bcy credits, value $150.00Bcy, (1) black in color Nokia cell phone, with no SIM card, value $250.00Bcy and approximately $3,000.00Bcy in different denominations. All to a total of over $15,000.00. No sign of forcible entry was observed on the water taxi terminal building and Police have detained the Security Guard of a Belize City address.

Two charged in burglary of water taxi terminal

Alleged burglars

27 year old Jermaine Rhaburn and 37 year old Kevin "Pizza" Jex, who allegedly burglarized Caye Caulker Water Taxi Terminal and stole money and items amounting to over $11,000.00, were charged with burglary when they appeared in court today. They pleaded not guilty to the charge. Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser did not offer them bail because they have court fines for which payment is outstanding. They were remanded into custody until December 4. The burglary occurred between 5:30 p.m. on October 14 and 7:30 a.m. on October 15. One of the vendors at the terminal reported to the police that the items that were stolen from him included $ 4,300.00, one laptop computer, two boxes of Cuban cigars and some cigarette lighters. Another vendor at the terminal, reported to the police that the items that were stolen from his booth included $3,000.00, one black Samsung cellular phone with $250.00 worth of credits and one Nokia cellular phone. A third vendor at the terminal told police that $1,527. 00 was stolen from him. None of the money or the items have been recovered. According to reports, there was no evidence of forced entry and it is believed that the culprits entered the building, located on North Front Street, through a back door that was open.
