My fiance and I are getting married in two weeks. We originally were planning a honeymoon at Kitty's Place in Placencia. We were told today that they aren't going to reopen until Nov.19, due to the hurrican damage. We are looking for a new place to stay from Nov. 5-12.

We'd like to know what our options are. We're looking for a nice place with cabanas. We don't need anything 5 starish. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,
Kaela and Chris

Are you sure it has to be cabanas?

I know I'm not familiar with the new ownership, however, one of the 3rd floor front rooms at Blue Tang Inn (especially on the southside) would suit me to a T were I to be on a rearranged honeymoon.

A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

Tropica Beach resort is on a good beach and has cabanas and pool. Good restaurant on premises and plenty of others nearby. It is on Ambergris Caye south of town.

Enjoy the emergency,

There are some great places in San Pedro, but if you want a Placencia-like experience, you might also look at Hopkins. Hamanasi there is terrific, with deluxe rooms, honeymoon suites and neat little treehouse suites, too, a bit back off the beach. The pool here is one of the best in all of Belize, and the food is good and not overpriced. Hopkins is a friendly, interesting Garifuna village. There was only a little damage in Hopkins from the storm -- two restaurants built on stilts over the sea were washed away, and Hamanasi lost its dock, but nothing like Placencia. Hamanasi is run by a hip young couple and their Russian-born cats.
