The Police Department is going the extra mile to make working conditions more conducive to law enforcement authorities. Minister of National Security John Saldivar today confirmed to reporters that allowances for police officers which were frozen have now been restored, retroactive to August of this year. Similarly, a special one hundred dollars a month allowance for police officers who are now required to work a twelve hour shift is also fully paid up and the Minister says the plan is to keep the payments current as a motivating factor for the men and women of law enforcement who are being called upon to go the extra mile themselves in maintaining law and order.

Another morale boosting initiative is the provision of barracks facilities for officers who are from out district who must travel into Belize City to work. With financial input from the Minister of National Security, the Ralf Fonseca building situated inside the compound at the Eastern Division headquarters is being renovated for use as a dormitory. Today, Minister Saldivar toured the facility to see the progress of the work being carried out. Officer in charge of Eastern Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Elodio Aragon, Junior told reporters that the renovation works is nearing completion.
