Elbert,
My concern about posting the photo of this beautiful grouper is that some ahole will now go try to spear him. As you well know, Mexico Rocks has no protection like Hol Chan and I see idiots there frequently fishing and destroying this precious place...

Beautiful photo, fine looking grouper. Mexico Rocks is our all time favorite spot to float and snorkel all day. Simply gorgeous and peaceful.

The species is found in the western North Atlantic: Bermuda, Florida, Bahamas, Yucatan Peninsula and throughout the Caribbean (see above map - distribution indicated by dotted line). It is not known from the Gulf of Mexico, except at the Campeche Bank off the coast of Yucatan, at Tortugas and off Key West (1).

All I know is we have always enjoyed dining upon plenty of delish grouper (usually sauteed in garlic butter with limon) while visiting many parts of the Yucatan, including Belize and Key West. Not at all apprised as to which species tho'. I do recall one grouper our friendly fisherman dude caught for us that was grey and pink, not so much looking like Elbert's fish here smile
