For the past week - "and change" - Corporal Sharmane Young's name has been in the news. She is the Tourism Police Officer who was immediately transferred from San Pedro after she had a difference with the Tourism Minister over an arrestee.

Well today the Ministry of National Security finally weighed in on the story. They issued a release this evening which says that quote, "the re-posting of Corporal #834 Sharmane Young from the San Pedro Sub-formation to Belize City is well within the established transfer policy of the Police Department." It adds that quote, "Reports of her transfer to the Placencia Sub- formation (are) completely inaccurate."

She will be transferred to Belize City effective December 15, 2012.

The release adds that, quote: "The Ministry is satisfied that this reposting to Belize City had nothing to do with the incident involving an American tourist, and regrets that the timing of the incident (has) led to understandable speculations about the motive for the decision."

No kidding on that one, right? But it doesn't end there: the release offers an olive branch: Corporal Young will be offered responsibility for the Burrell Boom Police Station. That is, if she wants it.

The release closes by saying that quote, "The Ministry of National Security hopes that this brings to an end the unfortunate saga." End quote.

Ministry of National Security Clarifies Issue of Transferred San Pedro Police Officer - Ambergris Today

The Ministry is satisfied that this reposting to Belize City had nothing to do with the incident involving an American tourist, and regrets that the timing of the incident and that of the redeployment have led to understandable speculations about the motive for the decision.

If you guys liked her and she and you want her to stay stationed in SP, I'd raise a ruckus to keep her. PSU will get on board, as I know they already have. What sort of message does this send police? Mess with a tourist with ties to the Minister and you get transfered? Thats bullshit and bad for SP and every where else.

The focus should be on the 2 cops that robbed the drunk guy of his shoes and wallet and a CCTV video was taken of them catching them in the act

What happened to that ?????

forgotten and brushed under the carpet ???

They are still the island protectors CROOKED COPS and Nothing being done

Seems this Officer was doing her job and is being punished for it but the San Pedro CROOKED COPS caught on video robbing a guy of his shoes and wallet are still AT LARGE and on duty in San Pedro.

Shame the Minister is not following up on that which would be much more warranted.

Agreed Gaz. As soon as it was disclosed, it was simply "gone"
