Hi,

My mother is staying with me and my 17 month old baby girl for the next 4 weeks. While she's here I want to take her to;

Rio Frio Cave
Rio on Pools
1,000 ft. falls
Caracol

Does anyone have suggestions about where to stay that will give me easy access to the 1st 3 and an easy drive to the ruins or vice versa? We are Belizean so a nice local rate would be great too!

Thanks

Since there are only four main lodges in the Mountain Pine Ridge reserve itself -- Blancaneaux, Hidden Valley, Four Sisters and Pine Ridge Lodge -- and all, especially the first three, are quite expensive, you might look at lodges just outside the Pine Ridge, such as Moonracer Farm, Inn the Bush, Crystal Paradise and Barton Creek Outpost, or even budget/moderate places in San Ignacio/Santa Elena such as Aguada, Marthas and Casa Blanca Guesthouse.

Discounts of around 50% on lodging (though usually not meals) are often available to Belize citizens but usually off season rather than in high season, which is now.

Thanks Lan. Usually we stay at Martha's when we travel to San Ignacio, was hoping to stay closer to the activities to avoid the travel in and out of the reserve, especially with the baby. I'll look into the places you've mentioned, thanks again

Add to Lan's list Mtn Equestrian Trails. "four" sisters is now Gaia Riverfront lodge and Barton Creek outpost is not accepting guests at this time

Sorry about that -- Gaia formerly FIVE Sisters, not four! I knew Barton Creek Outpost is for sale but didn't know it was no longer accepting guests. Moonracer Farm also is actively for sale but as far as I know is still accepting guests.

Also wondering about Las Cuevas -- the research station and lodge in the Chiquibul is no longer open?

...

Can appreciate not wanting to do a lot of rough traveling with a 17-month-old. Roads in the Pine Ridge usually aren't that bad, but the Cristo Rey and Georgeville roads can knock the fillings out of your teeth.
