Diario Respuesta - Mexico, Quintana Roo - A hard blow has been dealt to organized crime elements as the Mexican Navy raided the house of the Mexican drug lord of The Pelones in Chetumal, Carlos Cabaas Catzin alias "El Monstruo ", where he was arrested along with eight people, including two Belizean nationals in possession of 45 kilograms of the synthetic drug known as crystal meth.

It is the first major hit to be performed during the command of Vice Admiral General Corps Staff Graduate Arturo Fernando Castanon Zamacona, of the Eleventh Naval District, based in Chetumal.

Naval Zone XI confirmed the arrest today of a major drug dealer for The Pelones in the southern state of Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Catzin Carlos Cabaas, who was the chief in place in the Riviera Maya.

Members of the Navy of Mexico along with other federal agencies planned their raid on Thursday afternoon.

According to reports 45 kilograms of suspected crystal meth was found (about 50 thousand doses ready for distribution and retail marketing) along with eight suspected members of organized crime who were inside the building.

The drugs were valued at least 11 million pesos (an equivalent of USD $1,000,000.00) and were found grouped into bags and these in turn were found in several refrigerators.

Authorities claim the people found were Carlos Cabaas Catzin aka "The Monster", his brother Nestor Alberto Catzin Cabaas, Luis Juarez Lopez, Alejandro Lugo Courtenay, Fabiola Juarez Lopez and Rosa Patricia Morales Olan of Mexican Nationality and Hugo Casanova (of Calcutta, Corozal) and Ermelindo Vzquez (of Orange Walk) of Belizean nationality.

In addition, three vehicles were also confiscated including a Silver Gray 2500 Dodge Ram Pickup with License Plate Number CP-09846 registered in Campeche, which was parked on the opposite side, outside of Catzin's house, a gray older Nissan pickup with License Plate Number TB-45853 registered in Quintana Roo and a Silver Gray Renault Clio compact car with License Plate Number ZAF-6988 registered in the Yucatan.

At approximately 5:50 PM on Thursday February 7th, two vans filled with Navel members belonging to the 25th Battalion Marines arrived at the home of Carlos Cabanas Catzin on Avenida Benito Juarez between Camelias and Justo Sierra, Colonia Jesus Martinez Ross.

The marines all dressed in civilian clothing approached the house which was the sign for their companions to begin deploying through-out the next two blocks and stopping traffic from entering Avenida Benito Juarez.

Tenants who rent apartments in a building adjacent to the house were evicted in order to prevent any civilian casualties.

At around 6:30 PM a group of marines left the residence taking with them (2) women and (6) men who boarded a military vehicle and were taken to headquarters on Avenida Insurgentes and Emiliano Zapata in Chetumal.

Well-Known Belizeans Implicated In Major Mexican "Meth" Drug Bust

Two Belizeans are in a Mexico City jail after they were allegedly caught smuggling 100 pounds of the drug Crystal Meth in Chetumal. The two men, Milin Vasquez from Orange Walk, in the center of this picture and Hugo Cassanova from Corozal on the right of your screen - are known underworld operatives in northern Belize. But they are also businessmen: Vasquez owns the La Hacienda Steak House in Orange Walk, and Casanova has a car rental company in Carolina village.

But on Thursday evening, they weren't tending their businesses: Mexican law enforcement says they were doing drug business. They were caught in a Chetumal home along with a notorious Mexican dealer, Carlos Cabanas Catzin, known as the Monster - seen here on the left of your screen in the white shirt. The crystal meth - valued at about two million Belize dollars - is on the table in front of them, but was found in plastic bags in an icebox.

The bust was made on Thursday evening at 5:50, when marines from the Mexican Navy received launched a major operation targeting this house on Avenida Benito Juarez. The Diario Quintano Roo reports that the marines closed off two blocks, rappelled from a helicopter and entered the property. They arrested eight men, two women and confiscated three vehicles - all with Mexican plates.

The Diario quotes what it calls unofficial information which says that naval intelligence received intelligence days earlier that a load of crystal meth would be entering from Belize. ?It says that the two Belizean distributors Hugo Casanova and Ermelindo "Milin" Vasquez took the drugs to Carlos Cabaas Catzin's home. ?The newspaper adds that the Belizean dealers are linked with the Zetas Cartel and it is not the first time they have worked with Catzin's group known as Los Pelones. This could not be corroborated.

After the bust, the eight men were taken on a Navy plane to Mexico City, where they were handed over to the office of Specialized Investigation of Organized Crime.

Now, Belize law enforcement considers these two men major players - who also enjoyed, or purchased, some degree of protection from local law enforcement and in Vasquez's case, political protection - so to some extent they were mostly untouchable. In the 90's, Vasquez was the son-in-law of the then minister of police, Elito Urbina.

In the 90's both men were charged separately for serious offences: Casanova for a drug related murder in 1998 and Vasquez for landing a drug plane in Revenge Lagoon in December of 1995. They both beat the charges.

Vasquez took a high profile in 2008 - when he launched not one, but two cycling teams: Sugar City and Team Zamir. Those lavishly financed teams went unto dominate local cycling events - mostly with foreign cyclists -culminating in 2010 and 2011 when they won Cross Country Races back to back.

Now, if you are wondering what Crystal Meth is; it is a highly addictive illegal drug very popular in the United States. Psuedo-ephedrine - which caused so much commotion when its importation was illegalized in 2009 - is the key ingredient in making it. When we say commotion, we refer to a number of containers of the product, which were stolen out of Belize customs or intercepted in transit.

So what does this mean for Belize? Well, it certainly suggests that pseudo-ephedrine and its derivative crystal meth are making increasing inroads in Belize. In October, four kilos of Crystal Meth were intercepted coming in from Guatemala to Belize. As for the accused, they will likely face Federal Charges in Mexico which are considered very serious - and they could be looking at long prison terms.

Corozal - A high profile Drug case involving two Belizeans,
one from Corozal Town, one from San Pedro Ambergris Caye
and a Mexican national is dismissed against the trio in the Corozal Magistrate Court.

The dismissal almost went under the radar last week but was
picked up by this Editor this morning.

The dismissal was given as forensic results of the suspected
cocaine turn negative.

A classic case of suspected cocaine turning to powder or "flour"
as we say here.

================

On September 9th, 2012 we reported that Corozal Police arrested and charged two Belizeans, one Alfonso Iglesias of Corozal Town, one Jose Alberto Nuez Jr. of San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye and a Mexican national, one Pedro Alfonso Betancourt Reed for the possession of over 400 grams of suspected cocaine. The vehicle that the trio were travelling in was a Mexican licensed Silver Ford SUV, license plate No. Yucatan UUA-79-59. Both Belizeans and the Mexican had met bail and were awaiting trial. They were jointly charged for drug trafficking.

Last week a stunning evidence in the Corozal Magistrate court revealed that forensic tests proved negative results to cocaine or illicit drugs to the evidence submitted by prosecution in the case of the trio. The case was immediately dismissed in court by the magistrate and the trio walked out of court as free men and Betancourt Reed was handed back his Silver Ford SUV.

The eight drug traffickers, including drug smuggling czar in the south of the company, Carlos Cabaas Catzin aka "The Monster", formally arraigned to Mexican jail for crimes against public health in the form of possession with intent to distribute and sell, from the Sixth District Court, for the 45 kilograms of crystal synthetic drug found in the home of a reputed drug dealer.

Upon expiration of their request of extension of their constitutional term which sought to resolve the legal status of the accused detainees and after the Sixth District Court District analyzed in detail the case file, found sufficient evidence to prosecute the eight drug smugglers operating in this area.

So at midnight on Friday, the Sixth District Court issued a warrant of arrest eight narcos, that match the names of Carlos Cabaas Catzin Nestor Alberto Catzin Cabaas, Luis Jurez López, Alejandro Lugo Courtenay, Fabiola Juarez Lopez, Patricia Rosa Morales Oln, Hugo Casanova and Ermelindo Vazquez latter two Belizean nationalities.

Thus, the eight drug barons were formally detained in CERESO of this city and subject to prosecution for the crime against public health in their mode of possession for sale of 45 kilos of crystal.

Moreover, the criminal proceedings they face in the Sixth District Court passed the stage of offering proof so now the eight offenders will have the opportunity to offer testimony in their attempt to prove their innocence of the charges against them.

As you may recall, the eight alleged drug dealers that match the names of Carlos Cabaas Catzin Nestor Alberto Catzin Cabaas, Luis Jurez López, Alejandro Lugo Courtenay, Fabiola Lopez Juarez, Patricia Rosa Oln Morales, Hugo Casanova and Ermelindo Vazquez, were arrested last seven of this month by the Navy of Mexico at the home of Carlos Cabaas Catzin, located at Avenida Benito Juarez between Camelias and Justo Sierra, Colonia Jesus Martinez Ross, where were seized 45 kilos of drug known as "crystal".

And just the 13 of this month, the Federal Ministerial Police raided the neighboring departments of the Tsar's residence in drug smuggling, which are also owned by it.

In fact, the following day, the Attorney General's Office said the two properties of Carlos Cabaas Catzin are being related to the securing of 45 kilos of the drug known as "crystal".

This is the biggest blow to drug trafficking that has been successfully carried out by Mexico's Navy elite so far this year. The federal corporation reiterates its renewed commitment in the fight against drug smuggling and drug traffickers on behalf of the state of Quintana Roo.
