Will arrive 27 feb hoping to get to do a lot of fishing. I plan on getting a guide for offshore fishing but the majority of my fishing will be from shore .Was wonderinghow the fishing is near seascape 1 nautillus.
What size rods/reels should I bring and would it be foolish to bring my 4/5wt flyrod fo fish for small fish in the flats or lagoon? Also what lures would you folks recommend, and are the bugs gonna be bad? Any tips will be much appreciated. Im coming from colorado and can't wait to get there...

Gunny here is a link to a discussion we had a few weeks ago. Just to get you started.

Imo, bugs are not bad this time of year but come prepared. After a shower they can can get bad, but if you are in the breeze NO PROBLEM!

I have too much luggage already so how hard is it to get a rod and reel setup when I get there?

Capt Sharks,at the airport across from Maya Airlines, has lots of options, but not cheap. If you are going with a guide you do not need gear, they provide it. Shore and pier fishing, of course, you will have to have your own.

I just bought a medium duty spinning rod at Captn. Sharks last week. They had some on sale (rod, reel and line) for about $30 US. Worked great for shore fishing. At that price you can just give it away if you don't want to bring it home. Wasn't top quality but worked just fine.
