New Playground Equipment at Santa Rita Park
On Fen 25, a short ceremony to inaugurate a new playground
at Santa Rita Park was made on Feb 25. A substantial investment estimated at well over
$250,000.00 BCY was a gift from The Rotary Club of Edmonton Glendora Canada with
partnership from the Corozal Rotary Club and the Corozal Community.
The Corozal Rotary Club has been in existence for approximately 30 years and has brought great improvement to Corozal Town. The group has played an important role in the evolvement of the San Antonio School Snack program, Christmas party for Mary Hill School, Ride Across Belize 2010 and numerous scholarship programs just to name a few. Recently added to the group's already long list of projects, is the restoration of the park in Santa Rita Corozal. A gathering of school children, neighbours, town council members, Rotarians and invited guests were witness to the newly acquired playground equipment. The Corozal club carried out the major project in partnership with the Corozal Town Council, the business community and several International Rotary Clubs including the Rotary Club of Nisku Leduc from Alberta Canada.
Corozal and the community of Santa Rita are proud in being the recipients of such needed equipment at a time when most of Corozal's Parks do need a facelift. The cost for the equipment and logistics was a significant investment estimated at over $200,000.00 BCY.
Neighbours, children and volunteers were just all excited to have come out and assist the Rotarians in installing equipment, painting benches and cleaning the park. The playground was inaugurated with a brief and special ceremony on Feb 25.
Plaques of Appreciation in the restoration process were presented by the Corozal Town Council to Earl Johnson, President of the local Chapter of Rotary, The Rotary Club of Glendora, Edmonton CANADA and the Rotary Club of Nisku-Leduc CANADA. The community of Corozal has forged a great partnership with the Corozal Rotary Club and its international Rotarian partners of Canada. Corozal is certainly proud of this great accomplishment.
Stephen Lindop - International Director Rotary Club of Nisru Leduc Canada stated in his remarks that rotary is about service, youth, building communities and making the world a better place. He thanked the community of Corozal for hosting his group in such a delightful way. It was a pleasure and adventure to come down and work on the playground but the community's hosting and support given will never be forgotten.
Note: We encourage the Corozal Community and the residents of Santa Rita to care for this new children's playground and to report any abuses or damages, to the Corozal Town Council or your Community Policing Unit.
