Are there any shipwrecks in the Belize area?
Have any ships been sunk for dive sites?
I am planning a trip for January and I'm sure I will love the natural reefs, but after pretty fish and coral, my next favorite is crawling through sunken ships.
Thanks, Roche'

Ship wrecks here, unlike the 500 or so in Lake Michigan, are not like the ship wrecks most of think about. The Amigo's wreck is a barge which was sunk a few years back. It does attract some fish, eels and sharks, it is however just as barge. There is not much to see. Ship wrecks in other areas usually are intact and bear some resemblance to their former self. Not so here. You will be lucky to see some ballast stones and a few shards of timber.

Don't come here in search of treasure. Come to enjoy the living reef. It is more interesting than any shipwreck, besides the inhabitants are still alive!!!!!
