San Pedro enjoys benefit of the two garbage compactors
Three weeks ago the Republic of China (Taiwan) donated two garbage compactors to The San Pedro Town Council (SPTC). The objective was to aid the solid waste management department of the island to dispose of its garbage quickly and effortlessly.
Since the inauguration, the two large yellow trucks have been put to work and according to Councilor Kenrick Bracket, whose portfolio includes solid waste management, the compactor have made the task of garbage collection much easier and quicker.
Driving the two compactors are Orlando Westby and Edmir Dominquez. The compactors operate from 3AM to 1 PM, Monday through Saturday. The two compactors collect garbage simultaneously in two different areas to ensure maximum productivity. Compactor I covers front street area, Coconut Drive, Seagrape Drive and part of the DFC area, while compactor II covers Angel Coral Street, San Juan Area, Boca Del Rio Area, and the remaining part of DFC. Garbage collection service for across the bridge takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Bracket also said that residents can do their part to make this island cleaner by separating their garbage into biodegradable and non-biodegradable. Residents are also asked to dispose of garbage in proper bags and not to litter. Remember, together we can make "La Isla Bonita" a cleaner place.
