A friend was telling me that the Caye Caulker Library appreciates donations of books.

However, in Canada ( Toronto ) the cost is prohibitive when sending by Canada Post.

Is there a better way?

No, and unlike the U.S. book rates dont apply. IF the books are used and you can declare on the custom form they are only worth pennys on the dollar then the school will have to pay 30% on value and the cost of postage plus 13% tax. Schools can get all charges waived if they have a list of each book sent and then they can get the charges waived from Ministry of Finance.

We used to have lots of books sent to Belize with USPS using M bag service

Was the cheapest way we found to ship books

Thank you.

Will be sure, the next time am in the U.S., to check out the M bag service.

Such a pity that sending books for children is so costly.

What is also a shame is the amount of stuff folks bring down for animals and children that get confiscated. Example if they find 50 flea and tick collars they will just take them because they say that amount is for resale. This dosnt happen every time, but it does happen. We have lost a few medical teams that used to come here to do free clinics due to customs and the high cost of bringing in meds to be given out free. What a shame.

That is why it is always best to get a letter from the group ahead of time where you want to donate the goods. Makes the process much easier.
