There will be a public consultation at 7pm, Wednesday the 19th (tonight) at the Biltmore regarding the mega development at North Drowned Caye and Stake Bank near Belize City.

Friends of Swallow Caye has been trying to get the word out and would appreciate ANYONE to come and show support tonight. Not only conservation people but all stakeholders that would be affected by this.

One of FOSC's main concerns is the causeway that is planned to go right down the middle of Swallow Caye Wildlife Sanctuary.

You can view the EIAs and addenda here:

Ocean View Grand Development:

and

Stake Bank
<http://www.doe.gov.bz/EIAs/Stake%20Bank.html>

If the links don't work you can go to doe.gov.bz and look for EIAs and addenda for Stake Bank and Ocean View Grand.

So I'm asking in honor of Chocolate that as many people be there as possible. I thank you for taking a look at this.

Regards, Annie

This is madness -- from financial and engineering perspectives, not to mention the environmental perspective.

Thought this project was long dead.

Crazier than cruise ship tourism in the south or a large resort on Lighthouse reef atoll? Its a full time job trying to prevent these mad development proposals which destroy the very best of what we have to offer.

The good news is the GOB extortionists will chase them away as fast as they did Bill Gates.

It's no consolation, but this is not just a Belize problem. Read today that Venice gets 1.8 million cruise ship visitors a year (three times as many as Belize). Some days there are 35,000 cruise day trippers in Venice. The mega-ships come within 1,000 feet of St. Mark's Square.
