My husband and I have enjoyed traveling to La Isla Bonita the past two winters and are heading down again mid-February. We have a sailboat in Chicago that is in the water from April through October, so right about now we're ready for a little sailing "fix". Can anyone recommend a way to charter a boat for either a private or small group day sail?

P.S. Have really enjoyed reading this message board over the past few months. Great island, great people!

Thanks Marty. I was under the impression that TMM only charters for longer time periods. A week at least. But I will give it a shot and send them a note.

Jack,

TMM should be able to point you in the right direction. There are several options as far as day sails, but you'll need to give a few days notice so that they can clear the deck of any other obligations. Inside the reef or out you'll want a captain. The water is VERY shallow in places and the Belizian gov takes a very dim view of having their coral damaged. (In fact TMM sends a capitan with every charter that goes outside the reef. The cuts at the reef are VERY tricky). We are making the same arrangements for some friends who are traveling to SP with us in March. They need a sail fix REAL bad.

Jack-A-Roe is the name of our sailboat. But it is taken from an old English sailing song about a woman who follows her lover into battle and (of course) saves his life. The Dead have recorded it. Great song.

If you want to Day sail on a 30ft cat give Geraldo Badillo a call. He will not let you take the boat
alone because of the dangerous coral heads he will gladly let you help sail. Geraldo's telephone # is 2264.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like what we are looking for. I've emailed TMM, but have not heard back from them. I will definitely take Geraldo's number and contact him when we are down there. We have nine days so it should give him enough lead time.

My friend runs a great operation with a beautiful cat specializing in one day to one week charters. Check it out at www.catchartersbelize.com. His name is Cliff and you can say that Jennifer sent you.

Have fun
