It really isn't that frozen this winter. I only hope that if we are to get any cold weather this winter it happens when we are laying on a beach in Belize.
Can't wait to get there after reading all the great comments.
Just have a question?
Can we exchange Canadian travellers cheques at the banks there?
We are staying at San Telmo a condo near Banyan Bay, is that far from town...or just a great walk?
There are two couples in the group... one couple are divers and we will be there for two weeks starting Feb 3....can't wait!!!

While you can exchange Canadian Travellers cheques at the banks, it is just much easier to take US cheques with you. Those you can cash most anywhere and not have to worry about whether or not the bank is open when you need to change your money.

Thanks seashell...we were hoping to save a bit on not exchanging twice. The US dollar is a killer up here to change and if we only have to change the money once it would be nicer.
I think we will bring some US dollars just in case the banks are closed.

frozennorth, don't I know it!! The exchange is a killer but the idea of having to run around trying to change my money was worse. I learned from my first trip down there. On this last trip, a couple of people in my group were trying to use the instabank in Belize City and neither could get any money out. They didn't have the instalink plus or some darn thing. My position on that was, if you consider that on occasion the instalinks are down when we are at home, what are the chances that won't happen in a third world country. Consider that if you planned to get your cash from the instalink the day that you were in Belize City and the instalink was down that day . . .

I just take my lumps on the exchange and take down some US cash and the balance in US traveller's cheques. I never have to waste any of my valuable lollygagging time trying to get money changed. That's just my preference.

Thanks for the reply, seashell. I know what you mean about changing money. Sometimes we use the excuse of going to the bank....just to get our butts off the hammock. We have never had a problem changing travellers cheques in Mexico. Hope to try there anyway. Well be prepared with both.

I had the exact same question...
We are also Canadian and the American exchange rate is brutal. Oh well, better to pay out a little more for convenience and security. Thanks so much everyone. Enjoy your trips!

i don't know anything about exchange rates, but i feel you will need a golf cart for that distance. we just returned from ac, stayed at banyan bay, and rented a golf cart for the week. we walked over san pedro, so it is best to save your legs for town, not getting there.
