Our family is taking a trip to Belize. We are staying on Ambergris Caye. We want to take a day trip to the ruins. We are trying to choose between Lamanani (forgive spelling) or Xunantunich. Anyone who has information on costs, time involved, and any other helpful info would be appreciated. Also plan to take golf carts to tour the island of Ambergris Caye. If time is limited and we have to choose one direction from downtown which way would be the most scenic and interesting. Information would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you rent a golf cart for a half day (8 hrs) you can tour both south and north of the cut. Do it, because it is totally different, do north last, then you can stop at Palapa Bar or Sweet Basil, to refresh yourselves. Note carts half day is 8 hrs, other tour guides, a half day is 4 hrs.

I've only seen Xunantenuch (sp?). It was really beautiful, but it is a REALLY LONG WAY from AC. Check before you go how long it will take to either destination.

our family decided to go to Guatamala and vist TIKAL. It was amazing, not one ruin but a complete city in the jungle. It was well worth the extra effort. We flew from AC on a tour arranged by Maya Air. ( Book direct save 10% ). Try to get some books on this unique civilization before you go to really get the feel for it all no matter which ruins you end up visiting.

Lamanai is much easier from San Pedro, see 'inland tours' thread

Xunantunich requires a bit of a drive from Belize City out to it, nice drive though, you get close to Guatemala too...
