Hello everyone, I am a Canadian planning on moving to San Pedro this winter. I am looking to find a small bar that my wife and I can operate. Someplace that is not doing so well that the owners want out. Does anyone know of such a place? Does anyone know anything about the Royal Caribbean Sports Bar that is presently for sale? Thanks for your help, Bernie

I am basically retired. I owned and managed food and beverage establishments in Canada for over 30 years. I started out as a general contractor-built a restaurant and managed it for 10 years. I then built a golf course (25 years ago) with a restaurant and managed it for 20 years. I sold out, relaxed for a few years now I want to do something different-somewhere different.

Sounds like you are definitely well versed in the game. I was not so lucky. Lost my shirt on Vancouver Island. Competition is everywhere on this Island. But for something to do.....why not?
I'll help if I can. [email protected]

If you want to DO something different, somewhere different, probably should NOT consider buying a bar or restaurant in Belize.

To be marginally successful on the island you should research what is really Needed by the majority of people living on the the island (Note: Not Tourist Dependent/Related) and figure out how to provide that service.

Some bars on the island have traded hands at least a dozen times in a few years. If you buy an existing bar, you are bailing out an unsuccessful bar owner who made a bad decision and now he's passing it on to you.

Use the search feature and see how many have posted similar greetings....and see if they are even on this board any longer.

bernieA....An experienced San Pedro Real Estate agent once told me....When a business if for sale here it is because of one of two reasons; either the owner is broken or the business is broken....Simply do your homework, there are many successful businesses in this community where the owners are retiring or moving on.....I recommend contacting Travelman1....He knows the commercial real estate community quite well....And with your experience in the food & beverage industry you might find some real success here.....Good Luck!

Thanks Judyann, in my experience in and around the industry, I have found that if the business is broken it is usually because the owner is broken. A lot of people who fail in this business do so because they do not realize they need to humble themselves to service their hard to come by customers.
I tried to find Travelman1 and could not. Do you have a link?

We had a Thai Restaurant on the Island for over three year, we had to sell and move on for two main reasons. 1 Education for our three children and to take care of a over 80 years old mother. The people that bought the property ran the business into the ground.

We are planning on coming back to reopen, there are other reasons why people have to sell and not just the one's stated above.

Always find out how long the business has been in business and that will tell you what you need to know.

John - you are missed! Yes, you ran a good business and it would be nice to have you back. Everytime I look at my growing Lemon Grass I think of Thipaya.

What always surprised me is when someone buys a successful business then changes the name - menu - decor. All you are really buying is a name and some equipment; otherwise just open a new place.
