The Ministry of Works and Transport hereby informs the general public that the Hawksworth Bridge will be closed for maintenance and repairs with effect from today, Friday, August 30, 2013 to Friday, September 6, 2013; closing time is from 9pm to 4am daily. We regret any inconvenience caused to the Motoring Public, however, the closure is necessary in order to carry out scheduled maintenance and repairs.
It did say "Motoring Public". So I would guess it is open to pedestrians.
The Hawkesworth Bridge was shipped from Middlestone, England and was erected in 1949. This single lane suspension bridge, that crosses over the Macal River and connects the twin towns of Santa Elena and San Ignacio, is now under repair. The bridge closes at night, during repairs, and is opened during the day so as to not impede regular commuters.
