The San Pedro Police Department are investigating a shooting incident that left two persons injured, including an 11 year old male student of San Pedro Roman Catholic School. The incident happened on Coconut Drive, near the airstrip, shortly after 11:30AM on Wednesday September 18th. The shooting happened during height of traffic as the students were heading home for lunch. According to police the entire incident was caught on a surveillance camera.

When speaking to The San Pedro Sun Luis Mendez, an eyewitness explained that he had just arrived on a flight and was in the process of exiting the terminal from one of the local airlines. “When I was stepping out, I saw a man pulled out a gun and pointed it at head of another man. The men then began struggling and the firearm fell to the ground. They both went for the gun and they struggled for firearm on the ground. I went to inform a traffic officer who was in the area but when I was returning, I heard a blast. I saw the man that had the guy running down an alley towards the beach,” said Mendez.

According to police, the incident was captured on a surveillance camera belong to one of the establishments in the area and investigators have retrieved and viewed the footage. While the Police would not go into details, they indicated that a man who was walking with his daughter and carrying a gun was approached by another individual. An argument ensued, which led to the shooting.

As a result of the shooting, a man was grazed to the right hand while an 11 year old child, heading home for lunch, was shot in the right upper thigh. They were bothtaken to the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro PolyClinic II for treatment.

A minor is shot in San Pedro

San Pedro police are tonight investigating a shooting incident in which two people were injured shortly before midday.  Reports are that two men were involved in an altercation in the vicinity of the airstrip at about eleven-thirty when one of them produced a firearm.  During the struggle, several shots were fired hitting a primary school student and another person.  The minor, who was caught in the right thigh, ran home despite being injured.  We are told that another person was also grazed during the incident.  The student was subsequently transported to the San Pedro Polyclinic for medical attention.  News Five spoke via phone with the aunt of the little boy.  She recounts the incident.

“It was about eleven-forty-five this morning and my nephew was at the corner of Tropic Air waiting for his uncle to pick him up take him home and bring him back to school. So he saw these two men fighting right in front of the doorway of Tropic Air. And they were fighting and fighting and one of them took out a gun. So when he took out the gun, the other man tried to take it off his hand. So he tried to swirl the gun around; it went off. It hit the man that he was fighting with on his arm and then it hit the other child. When my nephew saw that, he started to run, but he still got shot in the leg. He was not rushed to the hospital. He went home and his mother took him to the polyclinic because there wasn’t anybody there. So when his mother took him to the polyclinic then everybody rushed there and we were there and the nurses tend to him right away. They did an x-ray on him and it shows that he does have the bullet in his leg. So the doctor at the polyclinic said that he could live with the bullet inside his leg; it is no problem…he is going to outgrow it. But you know as a parent and as a mother and as an aunt, we want a second opinion. So this evening, we came to a private doctor and tomorrow he’s gonna do surgery to remove the bullet.”

“Honestly, they are still looking for the gunman. They did apprehend the other man and apparently he started that the gunman has been trying to kill him since yesterday and yesterday the gunman went to his house with a machete and chopped his back.”

One man has since been detained pending questioning for his role in today’s shooting.
