Umm we just received a bill for $1100...our neighbor last month had a crazy bill too..So for one month we have used more electricity then the other 9 months? Has anyone else had this experience?

There has been no rhyme or reason for us either....The media has gotten involved, BEL states they have a special customer service group for these unexplained increases....We have hired electricians and monitored our meter....still cannot figure it out....Last month $591 this month $791....If you discover something let us know.....

We are very frugal with the electricity and our average bill has only been $100 since moving here last December..We haven't added anything to our usage nothing has changed. I guess my husband will go down tomorrow and try and figure it out.

Could someone be "pirating" from your connection?

Sounds like your neighbor ran a "special line" to his house. Atleast right now your meters not spinning. Power outage country wide.

Look at the bottom right where it says "Billing Date.....". Just to the right of the billing date there will be either "Cycle Bill" or "Manual Billing". If it states Manual Billing it means no one was out to actually read the meter and they just picked a number out of the air. I had an unusually high bill and it was because of a Manual Billing. Straightened it self out the next billing.

Every bill that we have they all say cycle billing....and there is no one taking power the neighbours etc. But what is weird is there were two guys by the meter with it open last week and my husband asked them what they were doing and they said checking the meter number. The plot thickens lol

We have been having crazy bills for over a year now. The last one was for $4700 if you can believe that. We have had them out there and the only thing I can think of is we are going to have to put our own meter on things. I think something more than incompetence is at play.

Shiwa......it appears that you are only one of hundreds and perhaps thousands of people that are being illegally taken advantage of by BEL. If you ask around you will discover that BEL has arbitrarily decided what to charge their customers. There is the example of an unoccupied residence having a bill one month of $8 BZ and the next month the bill going to $ 823 BZ. Our bill has gone from $700 to $1500 to $2300 in 3 months. This is with the same amount of usage. When we tried to talk with BEL about this is issue they said that the problem existed inside our home. I have talked with many prominent citizens and expats who run businesses and they all have been powerless to make any changes.
The only suggestion we have received is to take a photo every day with a digital camera to record usage. At least you will have proof of the KW used each day.

Is there a solar panel distributor on the island as right now it would be cheaper to run our generator...and I am a bit depressed to hear others are paying much more than what I am complaining about. We had a good run at $100 a month for awhile...
