Thirty-six year old Jaziba Nasser is eight months pregnant, but she finds herself behind bars since last Thursday. Nasser is remanded along with her husband, businessman Nazim Nasser and their two children Jamil and Hilal, following the discovery of six corroded bullets inside their residence in San Pedro Town. The family was jointly charged for keeping unlicensed ammunition. Jaziba, News Five understands, is not doing too well given her delicate condition which is compounded by the fact that their fourteen year old child has been left to take care of a six year old sibling. A meeting of the management of the Belize Central Prison was convened this afternoon during which this particular issue was discussed. We are reliably informed that Nasser has retained the services of attorney Dickie Bradley to appeal for her release. By law, persons found in possession of an unlicensed firearm or ammunition are held without bail for commission of the particular offenses. In this case, consideration for her release is being sought due to Jaziba’s physical condition, as well as the fact that two minors have been deserted in the wake of the family’s detention. The Nassers are scheduled to return to court on November twenty-ninth.
