We are visiting AB for the first time. Is walking on the island after dark safe? especially from town to hotel (BB)- what about the bugs- will we get eaten alive if we just want to sun on the beach? can we swim from the hotel to the reef?

I found walking to/from town to my hotel to be safe, when alone I do walk the street, it has better lighting, than the beach side.
Bugs...can be some, just be prepared, with spray and we used Bug&Sun by Coppertone, it did a good job. Plus take your ITCH STICK, just incase.
My strong swimmers were gonna swim to the reef.....well in town do not attempt that, boat traffic is too heavy. They tried from the Palapa Bar, got out to boat lanes, and came back......then out at Basil Jones I said if you are going to swim to the reef this is the spot......they said, nah that's OK. The water looks calm, but it is harder than one would think, and they are on swim teams. Hope this helps.

Strong is key, or take a floater, to rest several times, is what our guide recommended.
