What effect, if any, is devaluation of the Belize dollar having on the average tourist who visits San Pedro?

None. The Belize dollar has not be "devalued". There is a shortage of US dollars that has increased the value of the US dollar on the black market. The concern is if the US dollar is unavailable in sufficient amounts, then the people supplying commodities that have to be paid for in US dollars will not be able to continue doing so. If that happens, the concern for tourism is that the tourists will not be able to get all the things they are now able to get and will have eat rice and beans instead of steak imported from the US and drink local rum intead of imported scotch. LOL. It is actually potentially more serious than that and you can get further info by reading the recent postings on currrency and the Belize dollar.

The problem is simple economics. When the U.S.A. gets a cold we, here in Belize, get pneumonia. The tourists season is slower than usual and that translates into a greenback shortage. It happens every year but rarely in Jan. or Feb.
Why don't some of those OSB's everyone brags about having money in shake loose some low interest loans like the U.S. Government has?
