On Tuesday, Belize Water Services Ltd. applied to the Public Utilities Commission for an Annual Tariff Review for the period April first, 2014 to March thirty-first, 2015. The company is seeking an increase in water rates of sixteen and a quarter percent. If approved, consumers will incur an increase of two dollars and sixty-five cents added to existing cost of sixteen dollars and twenty-nine cents per thousand gallons of water. According to BWS, the request is being made in order to ensure the viability of the company. The application is the first since 2012 when a seven point two percent decrease was issued
