Would like to try fishing the flats. I understand there are some firm enough to wade. Where might these be on AC? What are the chances of catching fish with a spincast? What species are you likely to catch from the shore and which are edible? Will be staying on the north end. Thanks for any info.

How far North? I have seen people fishing (and catching) fish right in front of Los Encantos (between Sun Diver and Journey's End). Also, can catch fish right off the pier. Don't know what kind they were, but they were good! One guy fishing the flats caught a barracuda, and also I think snapper. Off the pier, we used just cheap spin rods. Good luck!

hey....

I had a lot of luck just past the pull ferry on the left side of the road last may.
Give it a shot. Try a spinning rod with a chartruse grubs or a fly. Pink and white worker pretty good also. ( clousers) Caught a some Snapper, and tried to land a cuda, pretty tough with 6 Lb. mono.
Had a blast, without having to go on a boat.

No bones, just snapper. If.... I mean When you catch them, the locals freak if you give them a pile of fish. Great stuff....
Oh yea .... keep your eyes peeled for crocks.
Knock em dead....

I fish quite abit on the back-side of the San Pedro on the lagoon and also flyfish wading off the shore. You must be careful not to step on a soft spot. Ya sink abit in the muck. Good luck!!

Bill I say get yourself some old fashion snow shoes, or two old tennis rackets, and strap one to each foot, so you will not sink in those soft spots. Note I said one to each foot........lol....glad to help.

In the North End there are two spots I usually hit, just North of the Mata Chica dock all the way up to Portofino usually hold bones up to 6 lbs and they're not shy. The other place is about 100 yards North of the Los Encantos dock all the way down to Journey' End. If there's a heavy North wind find something else to do, you might see them but they don't seem to pick up at all.

Cheers,

Simon..

Wade fishing with a 7-weight fly-rod, or a light spinning rod is a kick. You can catch more fish off a boat, but wade fishing,or off the end of a pier is relaxing. The area near the cut is pretty good. The various species of fish is pretty good : black snappers, red snappers, bonefish, barracudas, french grunts, and permit. Mr. twister's jigs are awesome. If you don't catch anything, try some sardines on a number 6 bait-holder. We're going in early June and I am ready tying flies crazy ! Best-Wishes, Mel S, "the crazed-fisherman"..........
