What's best? Traveler's checks or cold hard American cash? Also does everyone take VISA?

common question. if you do a search on this topic (above, right) you will get every concievable answer you need.
in short, most hotels, dive & gift shops, tour operators & larger restaurants take cards. small places don't. many folks like t-checks, i like to take cash.
your call.

I'll file that away. Jane takes cash.
On our recent trip, it became obvious that the shopkeepers would rather take US cash, and didn't like to give any change except BZ. Probably got a lot better exchange rate.
Everybody takes US dollars. Never even tried to take t-checks as a lot of places either won't take them, or can't handle large denominations. You can take smaller denominations, but have you seen what your signature looks like after you've signed it 50 times in a row?
Been there, done that, the washing machine ate the T-shirt

I always take a few hundred in cash, just to get me started and the rest in t-checks ($50 and $100 denominations) I've never had any trouble cashing them. I either get them cashed at the grocery store, the hotel or at the dive shop. At the grocery store, of course, I'm expected to buy something.
A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

Had no problem with Travlers Cheques! Cashed them even at the Hideaway. Got the feeling that the smaller the denomination the more readily cashable though, $20's is best for the smaller places.Don't do it at the bank though, too much hassle and they dock you a few bucks for the service and the exchange rate works against you!

We always take t-checks. Cashing smaller anywhere was no problem but we usually would exchange at Milo's - no hassles as at the bank and he gave a better rate than the standard 2:1. Nice folks work there!

Many people were kind enough to offer me advice when I asked the same question just a few days ago, here's the link to the thread: //ambergriscaye.com/message/Forum4/HTML/004267.html

Cash is best for everyday stuff....if you want to, use your cards for larger stuff....ex., car rental, hotel, dive deals. You will never have a problem with greenbacks, especially 20's or smaller!
