The Superbowl may have been playing in New York last night, but that game was a bust. If you wanted to see a quality competition ands real football, you didn't have to look any further than the MCC Grounds, or Channel 7, where FC Belize welcomed the Belmopan Bandits in game one of the Premier League Belikin Cup Final.
The stands were full and the game atmosphere was hype as Belize City fans came out in large numbers to cheer on the home team. In contrast to last week's embarrassment at the Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo, Sunday afternoon at the MCC was well played with excellent field conditions.
The Bandits shocked the home team when they scored in the fifth minute. Belize's best striker Deon McAuley explained how he did it - and Mark Kelo Leslie of FC Belize explained how he equalized in the second half:..
We also got valuable perspective from Glenford Chimilio Jr, who seemed like he wasn;t expecting McAuley's elegant goal in the fifth minute. He explained why it sailed past him:..
So with that 1 - 1 finish, the stage is set dramatically for next week Saturday night at 7:30 pm at Isidoro Beaton Stadium when the Bandits host the FC Belize on their home turf for the Belikin Cup Championship. There can be no draw and if there is one in regulation, overtime and kicks IF NECESSARY will crown a champion.
