This Forum is great and I've already learned alot. Planning a trip in June,(our first time!) and need a review from anyone who has stayed at Exotic Caye- Playador over the past few months. We are looking for a condo type place close to town with a small pool, okay beach, a dock, and a reasonable price. My husband and I will be traveling with kids(11 and 15 year old). This place seems to have what we're looking for. Any recent reviews on Exotic Caye will help. In the past I see they had mixed reviews. Any Better now? Please let me know. Thank-you!

I think your description of Exotic Caye (>>ondo type place close to town with a small pool, okay beach, a dock, and a reasonable price<< ) is pretty accurate, though the reasonable rate aspect depends on the deal you get. The other factor is that some of the units at Playador are a good bit nicer than others. You might also look at Seven Seas, which is a comparable property, and compare the rates they offer. Whichever is lower, assuming similar units, go for it.

We've stayed at Seven Seas and loved it - but, they have only one bedroom units. The sofa folds out into a hide-a-bed, which works ok for kids. Their pool is small, but, great for relaxing.

If you want two bedrooms, Paradise Villas has received great reviews, but, it'll cost you more... We've never stayed there.

Wherever you decide to stay, you'll love San Pedro. Just understand beforehand, that however nice the resort, it will still be somewhat "funky." For example, all walls at Seven Seas are concrete and 1/2 of the units have no finished ceiling - the rough finished beams are exposed. Cabinetry is locally made, without many of the finish details typical in US homes.

Although San Pedro is more touristy than Caye Caulker or Placencia, your kids can still have a cultural experience. Our teenagers loved it - it gave them an appreciation for a simpler, less hectic life.

Enjoy!

Neil
