I have NEVER planned a vacation in such short notice! YIPES! Never been to AC b4 either. Been to CR and many places in the Caribbean.

My SO and I are coming in May. Not big partiers, so want to be out of SP. We are also not real uppity-everything-has-to-be-perfect types either. Have found the BEST vacactions are not about a "perfect" trip, rather those trips with shall we say.....character!

Anyway, that being said:
has anyone stayed at those places in the last few months?

I think they're all about 1 1/2 - 2 miles north of the cut.

Is that near the ferry? Looks like it by the map, but the map isn't to scale.

Does anyone know anything about them--nice, dumpy etc?

Thanks so much for the input.

ps meant Belize Beach Suites (at White Sands)

I only know that Capricorn is a terrific place to eat. It is an idylic[ yes, idylic[ setting, teak wood and breezy decks and bar. Have not seen the rooms but .. probably great.

Nuck,

I stayed at Casa Coco Escondido last May. It was terriffic. It's very comfortable, with a huge deck around the top. Fully equipped. Two bedrooms with double or queen beds - I can't remember. The futon in the living room is also sleep-able. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. If you have any more specific questions about it, let me know. If I remember right, it's about a 10 minute walk to the ferry. We walked into town almost every day. It's also close to a great restaurant, now the name is slipping my mind. It's also a short walk to the Palapa Bar, where everyone on this board talks about going on Sundays. We also walked up to Capricorn a couple of times. The beach is beautifully maintained.

Sorry, don't mean to sound like a commercial, just trying to give info I'd want if I were asking!

Hey IslandJunkie,
That's great info and very very helpful!

When you stayed at Casa Coco, was it convenient to rent kayaks? Would they be "delivered" or do you go pick them up?

How did you arrange tours---just walk up the street to Gaz's?

Trying not to overplan! HAH!

We just got back yesterday from Belizean Shores, not sure if that is the same as belzean beach suites you reference. Our stay at Belizean Shores was fantastic. Kate, Doug, Lyle, Steve were all above and beyond, very friendly and helpful. The accomodations were very nice, clean, and everything worked, never a problem. They have a great pool, and the pool bar and restaurant I believe is opening in May. It is about 4 miles north of town, we took bikes (which were provided free) in town which was fun and easy for us. We are in our forty's children in there teens the ride though bumpy in spots wasn't hard. The ferry accross the cut only runs until 8:00PM so if your in town for the night you need to take a water taxi, which is $5 US a person each way. We had the best of both worlds on Ambergris, the beauty and calmness of the north end, but a short 20 minute bike ride into town for food, action ( you must see Barefoot Skinny and Catagory 7), shopping. A warning, the restaurants up north are more spendy, cheap food is in town at a couple places, but the north restaurants are also very good. Our favorite was Sweet Basils.
Good Luck,
KJ

Never rented Kayaks.

Tours, we didn't use Gaz, but I'm sure he's great, from all I read here.

We used Searious Adventures, in town. They're terrific, too, and I'll use them when I go back next month.

Have a blast!!!

We stayed at Journey's End the 1st week of March. Staff very friendly, food really good, drinks wonderful, beach beautiful, grounds nicely kept, kayaks, hobi cat available for guests for no expense. The rooms were decent. VERY relaxing and good time. We looked at a lot of places before staying at JE. I definately recommend the casitas right along the beach. The resort is small, uncrowded, nice outside palapa bar, umbrellas and hammocks on the beach. Personally we liked the ground there as well as any that we visited. Had a great time. We also wanted to be north of the cut and a little away from town for relaxation. Took water taxi to town, or island ferry, whatever. You can also rent bicycles. I would recommend booking tours or dives and snorkeling yourself in town. They will all pick you up or meet you at the dock. You can walk up and down the beach to nice places to eat, especially Capricorn.

BEST plan would be to stay north for 4 or 5 days, then in town fore 3 or 4 days.
ENJOY...do everything, drink lots of belikin with lime, forget your troubles. There will never be another time like it. Unless you go again and again. Rio
