After only a few years since its construction, the San Ignacio Town market is about to receive an aesthetical upgrade.

San Ignacio Mayor John August told The Reporter that his municipality is in the process of receiving the gift of US $65,000, which will be invested in a food court, awnings to protect shoppers from the elements, and technical training for vendors on hygiene and packaging. An added feature will be the development of a farmers' manual to guide them on how to conduct their day-to-day business.

The grant will come from CARILED, the Caribbean Local Economic Development Project, a six year initiative that stimulates local economic development in seven Caribbean countries, including Belize.
