About 35' up my coconut palm a woodpecker has cut a hole about 3" x 3" square. I don't know how deep this hole is as I have not climbed up to check it out, yet. Does anyone know if I can fill the hole without harming the palm further? Thinking about spray foam or concrete. Suggestions? I want to do whatever I can to save this beautiful coconut palm and stop the woodpecker from making this worse. Thank you.

I have done it with polyurethane, but the woodpecker kept coming back to the same spot, ended up covering filled hole with a metal plate. You want to fill it to prevent bugs from settling in the tree. My tree is still alive (7 years later), but I know it will eventually break at that spot during a storm. I hope you can save your tree.

I have a tree in my front that has 7 holes. Woodpeckers and iguanas are living in a few. It sees to just keep on living. It's been 10 years and still no problem with the tree. I think these coconut trees can live with just the slightest connection of trunk. I wouldn't waste my time trying to fill holes, besides it will never be lonely around you place.

Short....Thanks for the answer. When you say you filled it with polyurethane, was that a spray foam? Thanks.
