From Belmopan... 08:30 BZT

Just to show the oddities of weather . . . . Late last evening, there was a small, almost insignificant patch of cloud on the Radar near Belmopan... .But we got 21mm ( 1" ) of Rain from that.. .. Today, there are again large areas of Rain on the Radar.. . . .No obvious movement direction, just happening. . .. Some scattered in many parts of southern Belize.

It is a turbulent ITCZ activity all over Central America. . . . . .We are definitely now in the Wet Season type of weather, although officially it has not actually started in Belize yet.

Today, could certainly see some heavy rain in scattered locations and not much or any sun today. So sorry, your Solar system and or Wind Generator, will not be charging your batteries much today. Good job most of us have a BEL Grid connection.

Rainy weather for the weekend

Moist and unstable conditions are dominant factors in our weather this weekend.

The general forecast for Belize and her coastal waters is for mostly cloudy skies. Showers and thunderstorms now occurring inland will move to the coast tonight and tomorrow morning.

Winds are easterly to southeasterly at ten to twenty knots, with occasional higher gusts. The sea state is choppy to moderate, becoming rough at times.

Operators of small craft should exercise caution in rough seas.

High temperature this afternoon will range from the mid-eighties along the coast to the upper-eighties inland. It will be a comfortable seventy eight degrees Fahrenheit up in the hills.

Temperatures overnight will fall to a low of seventy six degrees Fahrenheit along the coast, to seventy three degrees Fahrenheit inland. It will be a cool sixty nine degrees Fahrenheit up at the exposed areas of the Mountain Pine Ridge and along the Maya Mountains in the south.

The tides: there will be a low tide at 6:27 this evening. This will be followed by a high tide at 12:25 am on Sunday.

The sun will rise at 5:17 am on Sunday. It will set at 6:24 pm tomorrow.

The extended forecast valid through to Monday afternoon is for cloudy skies with some showers and a few thunderstorms over most areas, but especially over northern and inland areas of the country.

Mata Grande - 5:08 AM - after a bit of light thunder and lightening earlier in the pre-dawn, the "storm" is poised to hit any moment. Winds from southeast, spitting rain, flashes of lightening and rumbles in the sky.
Although there is no planned outage for BEL today (perhaps wisely due to impending storm), I'd expect some interruptions anyway as a result of the weather.
