RT airfare from Las Vegas to Panama including tax...$450, RT airfare from Las Vegas to Belize $800. My information on why its so high is the taxes and airport Belize charges is so high, now the water taxis have doubled their prices, dosnt the Government understand what this does to tourism? With all the interest in Panama, Ecuador etc and they being so much more affordable Belize should get it together.

Am I wrong in thinking that the airport is privately owned? If so, that answers that question.

Check the prices flying to Roatan ... you land right there no connecting puddle jumper. The greed growing in our country is horrible. It surprises me that anyone wants to come here. If we do not get the prices down from the Government level all the way to the local level you watch as our tourism continues to drop off. I can not begin to tell you how many people I meet that are on vacation that comment on how expensive it is. Try operating boats with the complete theft that is going on with fuel prices. It is sad to live in such a beautiful country with such a small population to witness the greed almost first hand. In a country our size we have the opportunity to be heard and we should start screaming now ... as I am pretty certain the disease of greed does not stop on it's own.

Airfares from my home to Belize or Roatan are most often almost the same. Sometimes Roatan is cheaper. But once I'm on Roatan, it is less expensive. There's no need for yet another flight which pops up the price. Nor is there a need to take a longish water taxi ride to save on that. Once there, depending on one's taste for acco and food, it can range from similar to significantly less expensive.

I agree...the airfare from my home in Rhode Island, or even out of Boston can run anywhere from the upper $700-$1000+....for the cattle car, not first class. I can fly from here to Cancun for $300. Once there, even adding the price of taking a cab from the airport to the Ferry, to travel to an island off the coast is STILL less than airfare to BZ, NOT including any additional tropic flights around the country. Sad, since we love coming to BZ but it is becoming cost prohibitive.

I Airfare is very high in Belize in 2 parts...
1.The airport is privately owned .
2. Gov't is corrupt , won't give up on sweetheart deals that keep greasing there palms.

Hubby and I can fly from Chgo to Equador both for $700...
And here Belize is only 2 hrs away from Us.
Once the tourist STOP coming then they will react.......

Aye, airfares to BZ have always been high and have everything to do with passenger volume and little to do with airport fees, whether private or govt owned airport or whether honest or corrupt. Compare our arrival figures with the other countries you mentioned. Like Walmart vs Mom and Pop shop

Well, the planes we have been on each time we've come have always been full. Maybe they could add another one and get more people to come so they could lower the fares. If fares were cheaper, people would come. But what the heck, just wait for someone to fly to Miami and catch an NCL ship instead.
